what cures a serious dose of the January blues?

This is a real question, and one I wish I knew the answer to because quite frankly I'm fed up of feeling like I do right now.
I have been feeling 'under the weather' (a big fat cloud) for a few weeks and I'm also run down because I haven't been able to shake of my cold and mouth ulcers either.
I was not at work last week and really did nothing but sleep late and veg out - which I think was fine but it didn't make me feel any better - proof that rest and relaxation is a myth.
I know I'll snap out of this soon enough, and I do try to stay upbeat and positive but even making the effort to do this is hard right now, so today I have given up and I am having a moan. phew.

Now onto better things. A few of my latest crafty thoughts and ideas:
I am going to do an embroidery course at the local college. It won't start until October sadly, and I'm not doing it for the qualification - but more so I can hone my existing skills, learn new techniques/skills, and focus myself to achieve something very tangible.

I've decided that I just don't have enough time for making due to the day job. I've got a few days holiday stored up, so starting next week for a month, I'm going to try to take one day a week off work to dedicate to me, doing things I want to do and making things I want to make (like new cushions for my sofa).

I've been doing a bit of drawing and whilst I love my monsters, there is more to Monda than monsters. This is a WIP and something that needs more time and love before it is finished:
In my attempt at curing my blues, I have also ordered myself a stash of fabric, a TskTsk print, and something else which I'll show as soon as it arrives. Shopping therapy indeed.

I also found this pic on the camera which Mr Monda must have taken whilst I was at work today. How can you not smile at this? Stevie in the sink:

I don't exactly know how to cure the blues since I've been infected with the opposite this January (I was just glad to have finished with last year - it was very tiring), but I do think it has a lot to do with kittens in sinks. Could you try putting Stevie in other sinks (maybe even the bath) and seeing if it helps? :)

(ps I'm not cruel. I have a cat too. But I probably would put her in the sink if I thought it would help. I know she wouldn't mind.)

for me the worst thing about this time of year (and the thing which causes me the grumps) is that it is a whole. big. new. year. It's too big, there's too much I want to do and I don't know where to start...so I do nothing!! and doing nothing makes it worse!! I just tried to do something everyday, even ordering moo cards or fabric counts! and I carried on making old designs too, something I could just pick up and do, rather than be overwhelmed with new ideas...it worked for me, i'm out of the funk now, hoorah!!
hope you're feeling it again soon :-)
ps a day off a week sounds good to me, enjoy it :-)

Hope your purchases lift your spirits. I always get the blues in November. I think the distant promise of spring and more light helps this time of year. The little house is very cute.

I need more pics of Stevie and of the WIP please to lift me from my January blues (mine is because of 'that' especially for the ladies time of the month and the self inflicted fabric buying ban until February - Grrrr)
I am loving loving loving Stevie in the sink (my mum's kitten does that, mine is too fat and a bit dim) and I am loving in equalness (hey - new word!) the house applique thingamojibbity (and another new word -I'm on a roll!!!)
Now I am most intrigued...what can it be? Don't keep me in suspense for long, the way I am right now I'll probably cry.

I've just discovered your lovely blog - so many beautiful things to see. Hope you're feeling better soon. I always think January is a dreadfully dull and dreary month. Reading your blog has brightened my day!

Sorry to hear you're feeling blue .... I hope it won't last long.

That little house is GORGEOUS and the picture of your cute kitty really made me smile.

Happy one-day-off-a-month .... I'd recommend one day off a week - if you can swing it!

:)
