I'm hooked!

On Friday, I went to an 'introduction to crochet' class, along with my sister at John Lewis in Kingston, which was run by a rowan consultant called Lesley. I was quite prepared to come away from this and still not know how to crochet, however I am pleased to say that after a 4 hour intense session, I can now crochet! (and so can my sis). Our hands ached at the end of the session, probably because we were not very relaxed - finding the correct positions for our hands took a while.
I'm probably getting a bit ahead of myself now by saying I can crochet, as you can see from the pic above, I can double and triple in a straight line (don't look too closely), and I can just about interpret a pattern. We were given a 10% off rowan voucher for the day, and remarkably I didn't buy any wool or cotton, however I have my eye on this book on amazon:I did however have some happy time browsing the haberdashery dept, and bought some fabrics and notions to feed my stash - mostly from the bargain bin - great :o)
I can't imagine why crocheting has eluded me for such a long time, but I'm happy to have this new skill. Ripple blanket here I come!

I also had that arggh crochet feeling, but I set myself a challenge to learn before I turned 29. Trouble is I decided this the night before my birthday. Anyway a few attempts with instructions, one youtube video later and hey presto.I have now graduated to ripples I got the Ripple blanket pattern from Lucy at attic24 I found it through Pink Petals Design blog. Its only been half undone once and now its all good just need to find time in between wedding prep.

Good luck X

I am so impressed...I cannot do it - no matter what. I am totally not on the crochet planet at all...

hi monda, I was also a novice crocheter, until I made my mum sit with me and I managed to crochet a flower corsage, but that is as far as it goes and don't think I could do any again without help. I so desperately want to be able to crochet, maybe i need to go on a course too. well done any way.It looks good what you have done. x

Ooh it's exciting isn't it? I much prefer it to knitting - it's so much faster and looks so funky. Mind you I say that as a woman who has taken 15 months over one blanket...

What a lovely blog you have here! I found you through silver pebble. Everywhere I go lately someone is having a go at crochet, you make me want to get that book and have another go myself!

Have you seen Gina's ripple blanket? It's amazing!

Best wishes, Carolyn

well done you! I'm still in the process of teaching myself, and getting there slowly...it's taken me about 4 different books, many you tube tutorials, and finally the attic24 blog made me "get it"! I can see how totally addictive it is. I'd love to be able to do a ripple blanket, but I need a lot more practice yet!

It sounds as though you had lots of fun! I keep meaning to do one of the knitting workshops at our John Lewis. That's a great book, by the way. I've made the baby dress from it - you can see my brightly coloured version of it here http://daisychaindesignsjewellery.blogspot.com/2009/03/still-here.html
